Chosen Quotes to Share with (21)

The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.
-Oscar Wilde

Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)

------------------------------

once shared, you will know just how big a difference it makes to others. even if it is merely a spur of the moment kind of advice. everything make a change, even a tiny advice. do share your thoughts and speak out. never keep advices to yourself, the more you share, the more you learn in turn. ^^

The aim of life is self-development. To realize one's nature perfectly - that is what each of us is here for.
-Oscar Wilde

Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)

and to do that, we have to understand our capabilities and how far we can go. from my understanding, human abilities is unpredictable and can go very far, sometimes not even ourselves know we have it in us.

I don't play accurately-any one can play accurately- but I play with wonderful expression.
As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life.

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.
-Oscar Wilde

Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)
---------------
one may disagree. but some of those times when we hear someone saying "it is the best way for you", "believe me, this is what you should do", "you don't know more than i do and i think you...", "you should try to not go against your parents' will" etc.
you won't agree but don't you think there is some degree of manipulation? they do not hope to see you going against their hope.
perhaps, yes... they don't think the path or way of things you are taking charge is the best way, not a better way than what they have in mind. and yes, you may have their best interest at heart and they are showing that they do care about you.
but, as they are telling you what to do and what not to do, they are sweeping off the privilege of yours to take charge of your own life.
you may think "selfishness" is a strong word. but it is not that strong if you realise there is some degree of selfishness in them, who are having their hopes on you, hoping that you won't let them down, and work towards what they think is best for you.
what they do not wish to see is, your rebellion.
to live a life they wishes you to live.

Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event.
-Oscar Wilde
Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)
----------------------
this is what we always do, setting up dates to make our lives to seem more fulfilling and packed with events.
and those events, if we take a real closer look at them, some are not that exciting and interesting as they seem.
not unless you pour meaning to the events.
it is when we pour in passion to the events in our lives that they will come alive and exciting and worth anticipating for.
circled a few dates, marked with a star or marked with some symbols that has certain meaning to you, and prepare yourself anticipating for the day to come.
may it be an outing, a date, a party, a gathering, a meeting, a tour, a trip, whatever.
live is made easier with these anticipations.
without these in our lives, it will all seem too pale, and off colour.

"Illusion is the first of all pleasures. "

-Oscar Wilde

----------------

you know why? coz illusion is something we can't stand right there and just say "hey, this is an illusion, it is not REAL". it distorts reality.
Illusion can makes us see things we would LOVE to see, feel things the way we HOPE for.
but of coz, it can also makes us see BAD things as well.
but here we talk about "feel good" illusion.
Illusion works, for those believing in it.
It will never work, however, to those who do not prefer to savour even one moment in illusion.

"Morality, like art, means drawing a line someplace. "

-Oscar Wilde
------------------
yea, knowing where to draw lines is always IMPORTANT.
stepping a toe out of line, something unexpected will likely to happen.
okay maybe not that unexpected.. if you are not expecting something out of your control might happen, then why you draw the line in the first place?
it's for prevention.
preventing regretable things.
wait...
why is it always have to be regreatble things to happen when one stepped out of line??
it does not have to be that way, or is it??
*thinking... hard*
if, we see "stepping out of line" as taking risk, that will be totally different.
but for some people, because of their values, for them taking risk is just like doing something against their value system.
something that is very against what they believe.
therefore, for them, the risky behaviour is intolerable and immoral, in some sense.
did i got it right here?
no idea.. lol coz i think i am straying off topic. haha
you tell me.

"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter."
-Oscar Wilde
--------------------------------
my interpretation..
when we see an art which is very lively, and it is emitting a strong sense of emotions through the use of colours, lines, space, texture... it shows passion..
it reflects the artist himself.
when an artist paints, he pours life, his emotions into his art. regardless of the subject of the portrait.
no matter how identical the subject of the portrait is, comparing to the flesh covered warm blooded human, the portrait is still not a portrait of the subject, but of the artist himself.
it is the artist in disguise, behind the many faces of different subjects he had painted.
he replicate himself..
he is every where...
with his passion instilled in every art work he had painted...
advancing into the utopia of art..
